club new amsterdam´s
FIRST LADY OBT
admit it, we all love disco. and italo especially. remember your holidays in italy? rimini, lignagno... those were the days. the moves to the music are easy, the beats will provide you
all you need to practice the dance steps you only dared doing in the privacy of your own home. amanda lear, the flirts, ben liebrand, sabrina, modern talking.
dress up italo style, or, in worst case just put on your dancing shoes.
everybody s darling most surely is the first italo night in vienna that dares to go into the outer realms of italo. we invite you to love it as much as you do!

every once in a while it happens. you get an album, start the first track, we know, this happens rarely these days of download, but still sometimes you do. with this first track, you start to move. really move. you dance. you are at home in your livingroom and do feel a little bit odd, dancing, but the song is just too good not to. with the third track you are at the best party you have ever been to, even if it still is within the privacy of your own home. this is what happened to us when we heard the new MASON album, "they are among us". now, club new amsterdam will bring the dynamic hit duo (EXEEDER!) to vienna. live. at säulenhalle. this is a very special club new amsterdam special indeed. we are proud. and happy.
about mason:
Dutch duo Mason make the kind of records that often defy being pigeon-holed and given a label. Their productions have been destroying dance floors to tearing it up the World’s charts since 2006, laying the foundations for more forward thinking music. It’s not about making records for a particular set of Djs or trendy scene but just good honest music!
Mason have recently been honing a new and fully intergrated sound, light and visual live act. The boys have begun touring the globe in the last few months, performing from behind their specially designed “Baboon Booth” using a mixture of bespoke new technology and real instruments (kazoo, violin, clarinet!) to create a hugely dynamic and uniquely different show. This show will now be brought to vienna, by club new amsterdam on november 12th, at volksgarten säulenhalle.
Everyone remembers the dance floor hymne and Worldwide hit, ‘Exceeder’ . After this successful releases followed, numerous releases and remixes for labels like Great Stuff, Skint, CR2, Mute and Pickadoll . Mason continue to garner respect from above as well as under ground. The boys have recently lent his sound to remix on numerous artists including Moby, Gabriella Cilmi, Hadouken, Rex The Dog, Evil Nine, Robyn, Zoo Brazil, Disco Of Doom and Jesse Rose.
Mason’s critically acclaimed debut album, ‘They Are Among Us’ was released this Spring and features some interesting styles and flavours as well as guests such as legendary NYC rappers (Run) DMC and Kurtis Blow and hip hop UK hero ‘Sway’. Also renowned singer-songwriter Matt Hales ( AKA Aqualung) , Wonky pop pin-up Sam Sparro and former Moloko chanteuse Roisin Murphy add their magic to this eclectic line-up. ‘They Are Among Us’ was Mixmag’s Album Of The Month and has been described as “One of the freshest electronic albums to drop this year” by numerous blogs.
Using Iason’s classical violin training coupled with a love of diverse music and a hi-tech apprenticeship in a ring tone sweatshop, together with his studio and live partner Coen, a man fixated with ancient synths and playing in rock bands and a mean vocalist to boot, the Mason boys are now forging their own unique path. This duo has the musical arsenal required to make everything from filthy late night dance club bombs to daytime radio anthems.
These Dutchmen are unpredictable in both what is played in the club and what is created in the studio.
The Mason sound takes a great understanding of melody and fuses it with technological know-how sheer musicianship and dance floor savvy. It is dance music for the thinking man, but not so clever to be alienating and dull.
Mason don't like to take things too seriously mind. Anyone listening to the de-mix of Exceeder being replayed by a brass band will recognize a sense of humour in the music. Track titles such as Who Killed Trance and Let’s Get Ferretic are also refreshingly tongue-in-cheek and every track on his Animal Language label carries a ‘Refurb’, a re-interpretation in a totally different musical style, be it speed metal, Mariachi or Balkan!
In an area of the music industry where many fear to try something new or stick their necks out and make brave musical statements this duo currently leading the charge. What’s more, they are doing it all while having a laugh and on their own terms; up to their necks in old synths in the comforting busom of their Amsterdam studio.

we admit, this is a grand line up!
but before you put on your dancing shoes and make your way to säulenhalle, first a little history lesson about nightlife through the centuries: rituals to going out have changed through the ages. prehistoric partying consisted of moving around a campfire, sometimes smearing your hands in paint and leave the prints on the walls of your cave. medieval partying was good for lute playing minstrels singing about damsels in distress. ah, and louis XIV, he invented the ballet. the roaring twenties, charleston and champagne! the sixties with woodstock were so psychedelic that those who have lived cannot tell. the eighties were about looking down on the floor, shoulderpads and big hair. and then, there is club new amsterdam. club new amsterdam is about friendship, good music and dancing. back in vienna to celebrate life, love, and well... celebrating!

WE SAY YAY
2011 is the year that Kraak & Smaak will take centre stage with the release of their third studio album. The setup single from the record – Dynamite - has already become the most added electronic record at American college radio and the band have debuted their new live show at the Eurosonic Festival to a rapturous response ahead of a mad summer of touring.
Their new album Electric Hustle is sure to satisfy their growing army of fans and win over new converts. It is heavily song based with new singer Lex Empress contributing songs to the album as well as the band’s MC Sebastian, rising UK bluesman John Turrell and Dutch songstress Janne Schra (Schradinova / ex-Room Eleven).
The band also had the chance to work with vocalists who have influenced and informed their unique sound. The distinctive voice of house don Romanthony can be heard alongside New York funk legend Lee Fields bringing a brilliant diversity to the album which is weaved together by the trademark K&S beats and incredible keyboard playing.
Wim Plug, Mark Kneppers and Oscar De Jong are the studio core of Kraak & Smaak.
After originally bonding over a slavish devotion to vinyl and a love for classic funk records they went on to record Boogie Angst their debut album. Picked up in the UK by Radio 1 and in LA by KCRW the band quickly picked up fans especially in the Los Angeles TV and Film community. This led to their music being used in hospital chick show Greys Anatomy leading in turn to widespread use in other films and shows.
In the UK support has kept building steadily on the back of the incredible live show.
Annie Nightingale was a long time supporter of the band and the various guest mixes and spins on her Radio 1 show led to festival bookings and other R1 DJ’s getting on board.
Kraak & Smaak’s second album Plastic People spawned their biggest hit to date Squeeze Me. It sold over 80,000 copies in the US, was used there in a major TV ad for download service Rhapsody, brought in celeb and music industry fans as Perez Hilton and Kanye West and earned the band a live performance at ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Show. It also marked a change from the out and out boogie funk of the first album to a deeper more electronic sound and led to a world tour taking in the cream of the worlds festivals including Glastonbury, Big Chill and Bestival in the UK, Lowlands in Holland, Coachella, Ultra Music Festival and Detroit Movement in the US and many others around Europe.
In between the first and second albums the boys also released a double CD of the favourite remixes they had done, including Jamiroquai and Richard Dorfmeister; since then their remix catalogue has only gained more weight with Maxwell, Junkie XL, Sam Sparro, Fedde le Grand, Darwin Deez, Hurts, Sander Kleinenberg all being re-touched with the Kraak & Smaak sound.
Due for release in April 2011, Electric Hustle is more of an electronic album than their previous ones but it still has the unmistakeable Kraak & Smaak swing. The music moves effortlessly from nu-disco through deep electronic funk to upbeat hand in the air anthems.
The next single will be Call Up To Heaven feat Lex Empress and will feature mixes from Gramophonedzie, Parov Stelar and Smoove.
